ASU Football Handshakes Fuel Connection, Leadership

Arizona State football has had plenty to celebrate in the last two seasons, and they have been creative in the way they do so on the field.

Multiple players have handshakes as a way to focus up before taking the field or celebrate a big play.

It’s fun.

It’s entertaining.

But there’s also science that backs up that it can help bring the team closer.

Suns legend Steve Nash visited ASU last year and cited a study that was done on him and how often he connected with his teammates. The study showed the more times he physically interacted with his teammates, the stronger connection the team had.

The Sun Devils have taken that heart, and Jordyn Tyson is leading the charge to get those high-five numbers up.

He guesses he has about 100 personalized handshakes with players from last year and on this year’s squad.

So the next time the Sun Devils pull off a big play, know there’s also a connection in the celebration being made.
