On a stormy Friday night, week 5 of the high school football season delivers.
Before the storm
It all started Thursday night, before the storm.
Chandler showed it’s ready to be back in the conversation of the top 4 in the Open Division.
After dismantling Sandra Day O’Connor 49-10, behind six touchdowns by quarterback Will Mencl, it’s clear that Ty Wisdom has this team bought in.
Mencl threw for over 400 yards and is proving he’s among the best of the best at the position in state 48.

In 3A, Benjamin Franklin proved it’s the leader of the pack with a 35-6 win over Valley Christian.
Talan Speier is an ELITE playmaker on the outside, reeling in multiple touchdowns and highlight catches all night long.
Thursday nights never miss.
Thank you to @BFHS_ChargersFB for hosting last night’s Fiesta Bowl High School Showdown vs. Valley Christian!

Benjamin Franklin himself made an appearance on the broadcast. Great job by him (Jordan Hamm) as well as Rick Garretson making his broadcast debut. Eliav Gabay and Lexi Lambert crushed it as well.
WE HAVE BEN FRANKLIN HIMSELF IN THE HOUSE!!!!!
Tune in to @CW7Arizona NOW for tonight’s @Fiesta_Bowl High School Football Showdown between @BFHS_ChargersFB & @vctrojans!

Friday night storms
Liberty is a storm every week, continuing its dominance in a 39-8 dub over Pinnacle. Quarterback Brayden Stevens shined in the second half with multiple touchdown passes.
Anyone not ranking them No. 1 is flat out wrong…
An 0-5 storm has touched down at ALA Queen Creek, following a tough loss 21-17 to Salpointe Catholic. The Patriots have been a perennial Open Division contender, but now that progression is gone for this season. A few transfers may help them make a run in 6A.
The Lancers have played great early this year, they are dangerous in 6A. Tucson has many teams competing for championships at every level, including 6A.
Sahuaro is one of those school down south too. Four wins this season already matches the total from last year. Tonight it was a 44-6 victory over Sabino. Head coach Al Alexander has something cooking…
Things are looking up at Sahuaro. https://t.co/ZewrmF8fn2 pic.twitter.com/ZA4JhR43Gy

All season long, offenses that have faced Combs have felt like they’ve run into a monsoon. Through 5 games the Coyotes haven’t allowed a single point. That includes a 58-0 win over Maryvale Friday night. I’ve never seen anything like that ever…
Hamilton dropped 50 points again… In fact 50 points even against Centennial is the least the Huskies have scored so far this season. Most electric offense award goes to them in year two under Travis Dixon.
