Legacy Devil Cade Davis’ Long Road Back to Tempe

ASU long snapper Cade Davis didn’t grow up in Arizona, but he was well aware of the Sun Devil football program.

Growing up, he’d take yearly trips to watch the Devils with his dad Richard Davis, who was a defensive lineman in the late ’80s for Arizona State and was a part of the 1987 Rose Bowl team.

Cade has fond memories of Taylor Kelly throwing touchdowns to D.J. Foster, who Cade now sees daily at the ASU facility.

Davis takes a lot of pride in his work on the field, but doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s quick to crack a joke at his own expense about his college journey. This is his fifth school in five years, and he’s quick to admit where he’s made mistakes along the way.

But he’s grown a lot on the field and as a person throughout the process.

He carries that experience to help the rest of the special teams room, and he carries his father’s memory with him every day. Richard Davis passed away from a heart attack in 2023.

Football became an escape for Cade, and he has a constant reminder of his dad when walks by a Rose Bowl plaque or the “Sun Devils in the NFL” wall.

While he’s never lived in Arizona up until a few months ago, Tempe has always felt like home.
