Olivier Rioux, the 7-foot-9 center from Florida and the tallest player ever to appear in a college basketball game, is gearing up to explore new opportunities after announcing he will enter the transfer portal when it opens April 7.

“After taking time to reflect on my journey and what’s best for my future, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal,” Rioux shared in a social media post. His agent later confirmed the decision, adding that Rioux is eager for what comes next, while his father expressed appreciation for the experience with the Gators, noting the family is thankful for the opportunity and excited for what lies ahead.

Over the past two seasons, Rioux became one of the most recognizable figures in the sport. His rare appearances sparked loud reactions from fans and teammates alike, especially when he scored — including a memorable dunk that sent Florida’s bench into celebration. Florida’s depth made playing time difficult to come by, something head coach Todd Golden acknowledged earlier in the season while expressing confidence in Rioux’s long-term potential — whether in Gainesville or elsewhere. He played in 11 games this season, totaling just 16 minutes and scoring seven points, as he struggled to carve out a role on a roster loaded with frontcourt talent.

Rioux initially redshirted during Florida’s 2025 national championship run, an experience he described as a “dream come true.” Reflecting on his time with the program, he wrote, “It’s truly hard to put into words what these last two years and this experience has meant to me,” and added that winning the title is “something I will cherish forever.”

Before arriving at Florida, Rioux had already drawn global attention. In 2021, Guinness World Records named him the tallest teenager in the world at 7-foot-5. By the time he debuted this season, he officially became the tallest player in college basketball history. Though his on-court contributions were limited, Rioux’s presence made a lasting impression. He finishes his Florida stint with three years of eligibility remaining and will now look for a program where he can take on a larger role.
