The Tony Abou-Ganim Southwest Spirit Summit, held Nov. 16th-18th at the newly-opened Casino Del Sol Resort & Conference Center, will showcase some of the world's finest spirits, with a special focus on spirits made in the Southwestern part of the US (and Mexico), and will include consumer and industry events. Spirit ambassadors and producers, including Ron Cooper and Dave Grapshi, mixologists and...beverage "geek" extraordinaire Steven Olson and Dale DeGroff and many others will be on hand for a great weekend of cocktails and culinary excellence. The event features consumer seminars, spirited dinners, two competitions, two days of tasting, a BBQ bash, and two happy hours for the ages. In particular, this event is geared towards introducing consumers to the wonderful array of spirit categories available on the market today.

Kick off the weekend with event host Tony Abou Ganim as he re-creates the award winning cocktails from his latest challenge on Iron Chef America.  Attendees also have the opportunity to purchase and have Tony personally autograph his signature book, "The Modern Mixologist."

Be a part of the fun as mixologist superstars Julie Reiner and Brian Miller  recreate Tiki cocktails from the most famous of all tiki bars, Lani Kai in NYC.   Attendees will sample  traditional tiki creations made with fresh juices & exotic combinations of rum and liqueurs.  (Includes cocktails samples)

  • Luna Malvado Presents: 5 Course Cocktail Dinner with Iron Chef Mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim & Casino Del Sol Resort’s Best! -7:30pm-9:30pm-$75-PY STEAKHOUSE

Don’t miss out on this one of a kind experience hosted at Casino Del Sol Resort’s award winning PY Steakhouse! Tony Abou-Ganim and Casino Del Sol Resort’s Property Mixologist, Aaron DeFeo, will team up  with Casino Del Sol Resort’s top chefs, Jason Jonilonis and Erik Savin to create an extraordinary five course dinner featuring Sonoran cuisine with paired cocktails. $75 price includes gratuity.  A portion of the proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Helen David Memorial Fund dedicated to providing assistance to bartenders affected by breast cancer.

Join renowned experts Steve Olson (aka the wine-geek),  Tequila's "unofficial US ambassador,  David Graphshi, and "mezcal missionary, Ron Cooper, for an intimate blind-tasting-based seminar that will explore the mystique of agave-based spirits. (Includes cocktails samples)

  1. LUPEC presents: Women Behind the Bars: 1:00pm-2:15pm–(FREE with floor tasting)-BALLROOM B

Hanky Pankys and Gin-Gin Mules will flow as LUPEC ladies look back on our fore-broads. From mold-breaking saloon owners to current day cocktail mavens, women have had a vital, though often overlooked impact on the evolution of bars and cocktails. Lynnette Marrero and Meaghan Dorman of LUPEC-NYC, Kirsten Amann and Misty Kalkofen of LUPEC Boston will be joined by Julie Reiner for this informative seminar.  They will present an inspiring history of ladies like Ada Coleman, former Head Bartender of the Savoy Hotel and Helen David, who opened the Brass Rail Bar in the midst of the Great Depression

Learn the history and secrets of making Tiki cocktails, once a part of the most popular culinary trend in America in the 1950s.  Today, Tiki cocktails—featuring rums, exotic juices, and unusual flavor combinations—are hotter than ever thanks to  mixologist Julie Reiner who has been elevating the cocktail scene in NYC for the last decade, most notably with the opening of the Flatiron Lounge (2003), the Pegu Club (2005) and her latest venture, Brooklyn's Clover Club. As co-owner and beverage director of the Flatiron Lounge, Reiner drew much of her inspiration from her native Hawaii by utilizing the freshest fruits and premier quality spices & spirits available in her original cocktails. Julie's beverage program at the Clover Club is highly focused on classics, and furthers her signature style of superior quality and green market ingredients. Flatiron, Pegu and Clover opened to rave reviews and have enjoyed a top ranking among the best bars in the world.

Explore the wonderful world of gin & gin cocktails from Hendrick’s Gin Ambassador Charlotte Voisey.   Charlotte Voisey, Company Mixologist with William Grant & Sons USA was recognized by the James Beard Foundation in 2009 for contribution to mixology. Charlotte's unique cocktails can be found on menus across the world. (Includes cocktail samples)
 
Recent consulting projects include the Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, FIG and Fairmont, Santa Monica, The Dorchester Hotel in London, Kenmare, Cienfuegos and the Gramercy Park Hotel in Manhattan and most recently the W Hotels Downtown NY and Austin.   Charlotte is a regular on American TV, notably CBS' The Early Show, Fox & Friends and the current series of Top Chef Masters 2010 and The Next Iron Chef America.
